3.3 Collaborations and health services
3.3.1 Current collaborations with health institutions
On June 13–14 of this year, leading Turkish medical specialists visited the Abu Ali ibn Sina Bukhara State Medical Institute with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). This visit became a significant event in history, serving to further strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye in the fields of medicine, education, and personnel training.
During the visit, the Turkish delegation met with the Rector of the Institute, Professor Shukhrat Teshayev, and discussed in detail the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in medical education.
In particular, the meeting focused on developing cooperation in the following areas: professional development within residency and specialization programs; introduction of modern medical technologies and diagnostic methods; organization of academic exchanges between professors, teachers, and students; and implementation of joint scientific research projects.
The delegation members became closely acquainted with the modern infrastructure of the institute. In particular, they visited the institute’s clinical bases, educational and research buildings, chemistry, biology, and physiology laboratories, as well as high-tech simulation centers. The Turkish representatives also met with students of the Turkish Faculty of Medicine operating under the institute and highly appreciated the educational process.
As part of the visit, the guests shared their experience with the institute’s professors and teachers, and several master classes based on modern medical approaches were organized. Notably, the master classes in cardiac surgery, internal medicine, oncology, and emergency medical care proved to be of great practical significance for young medical professionals.
The Turkish delegation included highly experienced and internationally recognized specialists in the medical field — Prof. Dr. Serap Aykut Aka (leading specialist in oncology), Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özatik (experienced cardiac surgeon), Dr. Alper Selim Kocaoğlu (specialist in internal medicine), and Dr. Zinar Apaydın (expert in medical education).
The main purpose of this visit was to further deepen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye in the medical field, in particular: training highly qualified medical personnel and certifying them according to international standards; developing and introducing joint educational programs; and improving the healthcare system through the adoption of advanced technologies.
Undoubtedly, this visit became another vivid expression of the strategic partnership, mutual trust, and friendly relations between the two countries. In the future, it is planned to organize joint scientific and practical forums, symposiums, and conferences through such visits, as well as to implement innovative and high-potential medical projects.
3.3.2 Health outreach programmes
In 2024, in order to improve public health, promote an ecological lifestyle, and realize human potential by raising awareness of the benefits of proper nutrition, physical education, and sports, conditions were created to strengthen health promotion activities. As part of this initiative, daily physical exercise sessions were organized for the staff and students of the institute. Within the framework of the Marathon, a running competition in the “Student Run” category was held with the participation of students from higher education institutions.
This marathon was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle among students, encouraging their involvement in sports, and developing environmental awareness. Students from various higher education institutions in the region actively participated in the competition. The runners demonstrated their physical fitness, interest in sports, and active civic position.
Taking into account the launch of the nationwide movement “One Million Green Families,” which aims to widely promote the “Eco-active citizen” lifestyle by integrating environmental principles into everyday life, awareness-raising activities were organized among the staff and students of the institute. These activities promoted a healthy lifestyle, including improving medical culture, healthy eating, daily walking and running, encouraging the use of “green transport” such as bicycles, reducing the use of plastic products, preventing food waste, rational use of water, gas, and electricity resources, and sorting waste by type.
In addition, students actively participated in various sports events such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, wrestling, table tennis, futsal, chess, and checkers, with top performers receiving awards in well-organized ceremonies. Friendly volleyball matches under the slogan “Sport Unites Us” were held among senior staff and faculty members of higher education institutions in the Bukhara region.
This competition, aimed at widely introducing a healthy lifestyle and further developing mass sports, provided all participants with an opportunity to promote healthy competition, mutual support, and physical activity.
Since January 2024, Thursday has been designated as “Towards a Healthy Life and Sports Day,” and various sports activities have been carried out among the faculty members of the institute. Promoting a healthy lifestyle and the widespread adoption of sports is of great importance. Organizing sports events among faculty members not only helps strengthen health but also serves to unite the team and enhance cooperation.

At the Abu Ali ibn Sina Bukhara State Medical Institute, sports halls, sports grounds, mini-football fields, and chess and checkers rooms are available for use by local youth until 11:00 p.m. All necessary facilities have been created to encourage young people to engage in sports. These facilities, intended for free use by the community’s youth, have now switched to a 24/7 operating schedule.

In addition, outside of the scheduled medical examinations, students who visit the clinic for health recovery purposes are provided with continuous free medical services.
A working group is formed to organize in-depth medical examinations for students. The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (G.J.
